La Font Sainte
At an altitude of 1200 meters, protected by fir woods, the Font Sainte sanctuary appears like a haven of serenity.
Before being Christianized and dedicated to the Virgin, the Font Sainte was dedicated to the worship of water (Font = source).
The water, fresh and sacred, still flows down the side of the chapel.
Originally, a modest oratory was built on these green hills to house a statue of the virgin, brought back from the Crusades by the lords of Apchon.
Even today, the Font Sainte is an important place of pilgrimage and an area of relaxation and walking for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages.
The Font Sainte site is also a place dominating the Cheylade valley.
A walking route (limited to able-bodied people, narrow access chicanes limit the passage capacity) allows you to make a loop of approximately one hour, with sound terminals allowing you to listen to thematic stories about life in the mountains .
